SetlistLead
Setlist & Chord Charts

A setlist and chord-chart tool for gigging bands that lives in a single HTML file — no install, no account, no internet after the first load. Build a set, paste each chart, set a key and a per-song transpose, arrange the running order, then run the whole gig from Stage view with the arrow keys. Runs the same on the bar laptop, a tablet on the mic stand, or every player's phone.

The Tool, Running Live

This is the actual app — not a screenshot. The frame below loads it straight from the server. Add a song, paste a chart, hit ▶ Stage view and drive it with the arrow keys.

One File. No Backend. Nothing to Break.

Every chart, key and setlist is saved to the browser itself. Copy setlistlead.html onto a USB stick and it runs on the stage laptop with the Wi-Fi unplugged — the same on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS or a tablet. Nothing to log into on a dark stage.

Loaded with a sample set so you can see charts, transpose and Stage view straight away. Nothing is sent anywhere — edits live only in this browser and clear when you do. Best experienced in its own tab.

Gig-Ready in Four Steps

From a blank screen to a chart you can read from the back line in a few minutes — no template wrangling, no re-typing lyrics.

1

Paste the chart

Chords in [brackets] inline with the words, or a plain chord line above the lyric. A blank line starts a new section; [Chorus] or Chorus: names one. Chord-only lines are picked up too.

2

Set key & transpose

Give the song a Key, then a per-song Transpose (−11…+11) or a set-wide one. The stage header shows the sounding key; capo is noted for the player without changing the shapes.

3

Build the set

Tick the songs you're playing, order them with ▲▼, and drop in Note / break lines for a set break or a tuning reminder. The set gets a running-time total.

4

Play

One button goes full-screen. Arrow keys advance, S auto-scrolls a long chart, C hides the lyrics, B blacks the screen, L jumps to any song.

Every Feature, Purpose-Built for the Stage

No plugins, no page builder, no framework. One hand-written HTML file of vanilla HTML, CSS and JavaScript — open it and play.

01

Set Builder

One list for the whole gig: songs plus Note / break lines, tick to include, ▲▼ to order, with a live running-time total.

02

Chord-Chart Editor

Type or paste the chart with chords in [brackets] inline or on their own line above the lyric. Sections split on a blank line or a header.

03

Paste-to-Import Parser

Recognises [Verse 1] / Chorus: headers, blank-line section breaks, (x2) repeats and chord-only lines.

04

Transpose & Capo

Per-song and set-wide transpose (−11…+11). Capo is noted for the player without changing the written shapes; "prefer flats" controls spelling.

05

Nashville Numbers

Flip any chart to the number system for the players who read that way — recalculated live as you transpose.

06

Chords-only / Lyrics-only

One toggle for the band, another for a singer. Show the whole chart, just the chords, or just the words.

07

Hands-Free Auto-Scroll

Set a speed and let a long chart move on its own on Stage view — nudge it faster or slower with [ / ] mid-song.

08

Stage View

Big type, the sounding key in the header, blackout, per-song jump list, text-size keys — all keyboard-driven for a dark stage.

09

Auto-Fit Typography

Text sizing grows short charts and shrinks long ones up to your ceiling, so every song fills the screen without clipping.

10

Print / Save as PDF

A clean booklet: a cover setlist page plus every chart at the current transpose. Use the browser's "Save as PDF" for a sub.

11

Works Offline · Autosaves

Every set and setting persists to the browser via localStorage as you type. Close the laptop, reopen at the gig, it's all still there.

12

JSON / ZIP Backup

Save backup (.json) for the whole set, Save bundle (.zip) to include attached MP3s, and Open… to load either on any device.

Against the Usual Setlist & Chord Apps

Most bands either pay for a dedicated chart app, or carry a PDF binder and re-write charts by hand for every key change. Here is where a single-file tool lands next to them.

Option Cost Setup Notes
OnSongiPad only $29.99 one-time + optional sync subscription App Store, import your charts Deep and popular — but tied to Apple hardware, and sharing a library across the band's devices leans on a paid sync tier
BandHelper / Set List MakeriOS / Android / web Free tier · $2.49–$9.99 / month for the useful parts Account + cloud library Capable band toolkit, but the sync, sharing and larger libraries are a monthly subscription and there's a real learning curve
PDF binder / Google DocsAny device $0 – included Make a doc per song No transpose, no stage mode, no auto-scroll — every key change or re-order is done by hand, and there's no running order logic
Paper chartsMusic stand $0 Print every time Nothing to fail, but no transpose, no reflow for a small screen, and it blows off the stand at an outdoor gig
SetlistLeadSingle HTML file — this project $0 to run · optional CA$39 one-time Pro None — open setlistlead.html Nothing to install or subscribe to, runs offline on any OS with a browser, chords-in-brackets, per-song transpose & capo, keyboard Stage view, one-file backup

What the paid apps also tend to need

  • A monthly sync/sharing tier just to keep the band's charts in step across devices: $30 – $60 / year
  • A specific device or app store — often an iPad per player: hardware lock-in
  • Re-entering or re-importing your whole library when you switch apps: hours of work
